finals!

rational

For my creature I wanted to do something alone and sad, living in the fire nation. I came up with this old man who has shunned society and wanders around on the desert alone, using slabs of rock for shelter and cacti for food. Over time the rock and cacti have become a part of him as he carries it around on his back. His quarry makes him seem severely weary. The markings on him are based off aboriginal face paintings, seeing as he lives in the desert I thought that would make a nice touch, and are painted in the colour of desert insects and lizards, dull greens and sharp reds. His mandibles are designed to be able to munch through the spiny cacti and also happen to look like a beard, adding to the old man motif. He is a recluse and loner, living out his life in seclusion, away from all the turmoil of the other natons.

Them cheeky aboriginee

These here are the colours and patterns i was looking at for the creature. He lives in the desert but he's an albino so I'm kind of liking the white with red highlights, only in the pattern of an aboriginal face painting.

Trying to muscle me out is he!?

These are some of the images I've been using to get the anatomy design down. It's a mix of human insect and dinosaur pieces, the human to make the creature relatable, the insect to stick with the whole insect theme, and the dinosaur to give the bone structure some reinforcement. Oh and the camel toe (which was more difficult to find than you'd think) because it wanders around in the desert, so the Recluse' foot is heavily based off that.

Face me like a man!

So i tried warping the face out a bit, trying to make it a bit less anatomically correct but still humanoid and i came this saggy dragged down look as though the mandibles on his face are literally pulling his face out of shape.

Oh god, look at that mans beard!

some beard concepts of an insectoid nature. tell me what you think.

Referencing.

Here we have some visual referencing for the Recluse' design.

He looks a little... dead.

Ive based the general skeleton of the Recluse on a dinosaur, something big and sturdy and used to carrying a load of weight. Its not entirely done yet, many a layer is still to attach.

The Recluse

The Recluse is a wandere, a loner, a rogue. He travels alone in the desert, far away from any kind of society. The Recluse is an albino and has to carry around a cover to protect him from the sun, the price of pricvacy. hes been wandering the desert for so long now that the weight of his quarry has molded to his arms and supports a small eco-system of fire nation creatures, mostly desert insects and small reptiles. The Recluse wont allow anything big enough to bother him on. It eats mostly cacti, saving long strands of it to adorn its shell for camoflouge and to keep flying insects off its torso, much like the hats they wear in australia.

Introducing the fire nation!

Ive decided to do the fire nation of the gloaming, why? mainly because they were my favourite nation in the cartoon Avatar. Im looking at going into the desert and basing elemrnts of my character around the difficulty of surviving in extreme conditions. The creature has harvested what it can and eats what it can and shields itself from the sun, a nomad. a cool element that popped up was the fact that he has to lug this huge slab of rock around with him to ward off the sun, an idea derived from desert creatures (insects mostly) habit of hiding under rocks and having carapace slabs over them naturally.
